Customer Problem Definition: The Bridge Between Idea and Impact

You’ve reviewed the Idea-to-Impact - (Alpha - WIP)

And are clear whether you have an idea or innovation — now what?

Here’s the truth: ideas are easy. Getting to make an impact on your customer’s business is hard.

The bridge between the two? Understanding your customer’s problem_._

Too many founders start pitching what their idea, innovation or what they’ve built before understanding why it matters to the customer.

If you want to build something people value, you need to begin with their problem, not with your solution.

The Customer Problem Definition (CPD)

When you you use your Customer Compass to understand the customer’s viewpoint and can define the problem in your customer’s own words, you’re no longer guessing. You’re starting a conversation they already want to have.

So before you pitch anything, ask yourself:

👉 What’s the problem?

👉 How are they failing to solve it today?

Startup Secret: Before you pitch anything, write your customer’s problem so clearly that they identify with it and say, “Exactly. That’s me!”

Then — and only then — begin to build and test your Customer Value Proposition with them.

Get this right, and everything downstream — including your Customer Value Proposition — flows more naturally.
